Car Seat Inspections

Did you know:

  • Four out of every five child car seats are installed incorrectly?
  • One-third of children are riding in the wrong restraints for their age and size?

The Sandy Springs Fire Department wants to make sure our youngest residents are safe and secure while on the road, and offers child car seat inspections for residents. Inspections are done on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 9 a.m. - noon at Sandy Springs Fire Station #2 (135 Johnson Ferry Road) or by appointment.

Some other important things to remember are:

  • Be a good role model. Make sure you always wear your seat belt. This will help your child form a lifelong habit of buckling up.
  • Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If you do not have the manufacturer’s instructions for your car safety seat, write or call the company’s customer service department. They will ask you for the model number, name of seat, and date of manufacture. The manufacturer’s address and phone number are on the label on the seat. Also follow the instructions in your vehicle owner’s manual about using car safety seats.
  • Make sure that the warranty cards for the child safety seat are filled out and submitted to the manufacturer in the case of a recall or other issues that may arise with the product.

For more information on the latest child safety seat standards, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Agency’s (NHTSA,gov) website.

To schedule a car seat inspection, please email Lt.Freddie Pelzer or contact him by phone at 678-491-6598.
