The City of Sandy Springs does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in its services, programs, or activities.

Employment

The City of Sandy Springs does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with regulations issued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.

Effective Communication

Upon request, the City of Sandy Springs will provide appropriate aids and services to help ensure effective communication for qualified individuals with disabilities so they can participate equally in City programs, services, and activities.

Examples may include qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other accessible communication formats for individuals with speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures

The City of Sandy Springs will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to help ensure individuals with disabilities have equal access to City programs, services, and activities.

Individuals requiring an auxiliary aid, service, or policy modification to participate in a City program or activity should contact ADATransition@sandyspringsga.gov as early as possible and no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.

The ADA does not require the City to take actions that would fundamentally alter the nature of a program or service or create an undue financial or administrative burden.

Complaints regarding accessibility of City programs, services, or activities may also be directed to ADATransition@sandyspringsga.gov .

The City of Sandy Springs will not place a surcharge on individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of auxiliary aids, services, or reasonable policy modifications.

ADA Grievance Procedure

This grievance procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). It may be used by anyone wishing to file a complaint alleging disability discrimination in the provision of City services, activities, programs, or benefits.

Employment-related disability discrimination complaints are governed separately by the City’s Personnel Policy.

Complaints should be submitted in writing and include:

  • Name and contact information of the complainant
  • Location and date of the alleged issue
  • Description of the alleged discrimination or accessibility concern

Alternative methods for filing complaints, including personal interviews or audio recordings, are available upon request for individuals with disabilities.

Complaints should be submitted as soon as possible and no later than 60 calendar days after the alleged violation to:

Within 15 calendar days of receiving a complaint, the ADA Compliance Officer or designee will meet with the complainant to discuss the issue and possible resolutions.

A written response will generally be provided within 15 calendar days after the meeting and, when appropriate, in an accessible format such as large print, Braille, or audio recording.

If the complaint is not resolved satisfactorily, the complainant may appeal the decision within 15 calendar days to the Director of Community Development or designee.

The Director of Community Development or designee will meet with the complainant within 15 calendar days of receiving the appeal and will provide a written response within 15 calendar days following that meeting.

Appeals of the Director of Community Development’s determination shall follow Article XXII of the City of Sandy Springs Zoning Ordinance.

All written complaints received by the ADA Compliance Officer, Director of Community Development, and Board of Appeals will be retained by the City for at least three years following the City’s final determination.
