Emergency Notifications

When an emergency occurs, the City of Sandy Springs uses multiple channels to relay information to the community. Below are the major channels we use to communication with you.

Sandy Springs Alerts

When an emergency happens, every second counts. Sandy Springs Alerts is an opt-in notification system. You choose the types of alerts you wish to receive—emergency notifications related to weather, power outages, safety issues, traffic, or simply emergency alerts.

Severe Weather

If the City needs to release emergency information during a severe weather event, it will be published on this page.

Winter Weather

If the City needs to release emergency information during a winter weather event, it will be published on this page.

Social Media in Emergency Situations

We use social media outlets, in particular Facebook and Twitter, to provide you with real-time updates. Follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page so you can stay connected. The Sandy Springs Police Department also shares information on its Police Department Facebook page and Police Department Twitter page, and Sandy Springs Fire Department has a Fire Department Facebook page.

Tornado Warning Sirens

The tornado sirens are designed to overlap existing communication channels, providing an additional layer in the City’s multi-tiered approach in communicating emergency information to its residents. Our sirens are audibly tested the first Wednesday of each month. Testing is delayed if the forecast for the day calls for inclement weather.

VoIP and 9-1-1

If you use Voice Over Internet Protocol for phone service, please make sure your land location is noted by your provider, to aid in 9-1-1 response.
