Tornado Warning Sirens
The City of Sandy Springs tornado sirens are activated under the following conditions:
- When the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning affecting Sandy Springs
- When the National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning that includes a tornado watch affecting Sandy Springs
- When a tornado is observed or reported within the city by a public safety official
Public safety officials conduct audible siren tests on the first Wednesday of each month between 11 a.m. and noon, in accordance with recommendations from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS).
Audible testing also occurs during the State of Georgia’s Tornado Awareness Day.
Silent system tests are conducted daily to help ensure operational readiness.
