Principal activities of the Municipal Court include:
- Conduct arraignments for all defendants charged with applicable traffic and criminal misdemeanors in the City of Sandy Springs. This is the defendants’ opportunity to enter a plea or negotiate a settlement in their cases. Felonies and certain criminal misdemeanors are prosecuted in the Fulton County State Court.
- Hold bench trials for those defendants who have pleaded “not guilty.” A bench trial is heard by a Judge as opposed to a jury. Jury trials are held in Fulton County State Court.
- Adjudicate all alleged violations of Sandy Springs environmental, building and development codes.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all court proceedings.
The court staff will be happy to assist you with any procedural matter you may have questions about, including information on any bond posted at the time of arrest. Please remember that our court staff cannot answer legal questions, or give you advice about what to do with your case. If you need legal advice, please consult with an attorney.
If you do not agree with the judge’s decision of your case you may appeal it through the Superior Court of Fulton County. Contact the clerk’s office in Fulton County Superior Court for further information by calling (404) 613-5313.
