Court Functions
Municipal Court Responsibilities
The Sandy Springs Municipal Court is responsible for handling certain traffic violations, criminal misdemeanors, and City ordinance matters.
Principal activities of the Municipal Court include:
- Conducting arraignments for defendants charged with applicable traffic violations and criminal misdemeanors within the City of Sandy Springs. During arraignment, defendants may enter a plea or negotiate a resolution to their case.
- Holding bench trials for defendants who plead not guilty. Bench trials are decided by a judge rather than a jury. Jury trials are conducted in Fulton County State Court.
- Adjudicating alleged violations of Sandy Springs environmental, building, and development codes.
- Maintaining complete and accurate records of court proceedings.
Court staff can assist with procedural questions, including information about bonds posted at the time of arrest.
Note: Court staff cannot provide legal advice or answer legal questions about your case. If you need legal guidance, consult with an attorney.
If you disagree with the judge’s decision in your case, you may file an appeal through the Superior Court of Fulton County .
