City of Sandy Springs Acquires Four Additional Sculptures for its Public Art Collection

Sandy Springs, GA — (June 19, 2024) -- During the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the Sandy Springs City Council approved the purchase of three sculptures and accepted the gift of another sculpture for its expanding Public Art Collection, which now encompasses an impressive 33 pieces.

Art Sandy Springs is giving the City Caprice, a stainless steel and bronze sculpture by Charles Pilkey, with the proposed permanent location at the Abernathy Arts Center.

Additionally, the City is purchasing: 

  • Nesting, a steel and driftwood sculpture by Richard Herzog ($11,000) to be placed at Morgans Falls Overlook Park
  • UpCycle, made of steel, bicycle wheels, and paint, by sculptor Joni Younkins-Herzog ($4,600) to be placed along the trail at Abernathy Greenway South
  • Flowing Arches, painted steel by sculptor Matty Moyer ($5,700), to be placed at Windsor Meadows Park

These sculptures were among the nine finalists from the previous year’s Arts in the Open sculpture competition. Since 2018, the City has partnered with Art Sandy Springs for the annual sculpture competition which draws submissions from across the country.
