City Awards Paving Contract to Continue Road Resurfacing Program

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Oct. 19, 2021) — The City of Sandy Springs has awarded a paving contract to Blount Construction Company, Inc. for the continuation of the City's Pavement Management Program. The City has also authorized additional funding in the amount of $2.5 million to complete the program.

"Well maintained roads are very important to the citizens of Sandy Springs," said Mayor Rusty Paul. "I'm delighted we are making this additional investment to provide safe and reliable roadways throughout the City."

At the June 15, 2021 City Council meeting, the City's consultant, MDS Technologies, Inc., presented its findings for the FY2021 pavement condition index (PCI) study performed on all City-owned streets and recommended a list of streets for resurfacing based on these findings. PCI scores for these streets ranged from 11 to 42 and were identified as the next priority for resurfacing in the continuation of Operation Pave On.

Blount will perform all subsurface, resurfacing, striping, and related work on the approved streets, as well as streets deferred from the FY2020 and FY2021 resurfacing contracts. Material testing will be provided by a separately contracted consultant to help ensure a high level of quality assurance and consistent materials through an independent reviewing authority.
