Sandy Springs City Council Awards Construction Contracts for Multiple Transportation Safety and Operational Improvement Projects

February 20, 2024

Sandy Springs, GA (Feb. 20, 2024) - During the City Council meeting on February 20, 2024, two contracts were awarded for projects that will improve pedestrian safety, operational efficiency, and accessibility throughout Sandy Springs. A contract with Vertical Earth for $431,353.53 to construct a mid-block crossing on Roswell Road at the North Fulton Government Center. A $12,388,000 construction contract was also approved with Excellere Construction for the Mount Vernon Highway Multi-Use Path.

  • The purpose of this project is to provide safer pedestrian access to the North Fulton County Government Service Center, 7741 Roswell Road. Improvements will include installing a pedestrian safety beacon between the two MARTA bus stops on Roswell Road. In addition to the signalized crossing, the project will include a raised landscaped median, sidewalk improvements, striping, signing, and lighting. Construction is estimated to last around seven months.
  • The Mount Vernon Highway Multi-Use Path and Intersection project will improve vehicular and pedestrian safety from Vernon Trace to the Sandy Spring MARTA Station. A multi-use path will be constructed on the south shoulder of Mt Vernon Hwy, and six-foot-wide sidewalks will be constructed on the north.  New turn lanes will be added to the following intersections: Glenridge Drive, Barfield Road, Crestline Parkway, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, and Perimeter Center West. Traffic signal upgrades will also be included. Construction is estimated to take approximately two years to complete.
