Sandy Springs Selects Location for Anne Frank Exhibit

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Nov. 2, 2021) — The City of Sandy Springs has selected the Heritage Building to house the Georgia Holocaust Memorial and Anne Frank in the World exhibit as part of its partnership with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust.

The property, located at 6110 Blue Stone Road in Sandy Springs, also will house office space for GCH and was one of five options at four different locations being considered. The initiative is part of the City’s plan to create a civic/cultural center for residents and visitors. Council decided to consider all options, including renovation or new construction, at the location.

“I am excited the Georgia Holocaust Memorial and Anne Frank exhibit are remaining in Sandy Springs,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “There were a number of possibilities for us to explore, and I’m delighted the Heritage Building will house this important memorial. It will feature a greatly enhanced set of high-tech exhibits drawing on state-of-the-art technology. Furthermore, this was a priority for my predecessor, Mayor Eva Galambos, and I think she’d be proud of the hard work by so many and the ultimate result.”

The City has used the recommendations of long range plans to inform its decision making for key public and private investments in the community. In 2012, the City Center Master Plan process resulted in a goal of creating an appropriate setting for a new civic/cultural center that functions as a place of community activity and identity. The Georgia Holocaust Memorial and Anne Frank exhibit are part of the City fulfilling its mission of having a cultural center.

The Next 10 Comprehensive Plan envisioned the City Springs district as a unique, vibrant and walkable district that serves as a civic/cultural center for Sandy Springs. It contemplated a variety of uses in the area, including civic, cultural and community uses. Similarly, in 2019, the Recreation and Parks Comprehensive Plan listed arts and culture as a high priority for programming, including the construction of a cultural center near City Springs over the next ten years.

Furthermore, the Council has prioritized the exploration of options for a cultural center in its annual priorities since 2019 and carried over a budget allocation of $2.5 million for a cultural center for the past three years.
