City Launches Neighborhood Decorative Lighting Cost Sharing Program

November 17, 2021

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Nov. 16, 2021) — With increased interest in installing decorative lighting in Sandy Springs neighborhoods, the City has adopted a neighborhood lighting cost sharing program for approved decorative lighting fixtures.

Neighborhoods must obtain an estimate from Georgia Power Company for installation costs in order to apply for consideration under the program. The program, which will be funded through a new capital account of $100,000, will match 50% of the installation cost. The previous policy required neighborhoods to pay 100% of the installation cost.

"I am pleased the City decided to move forward with this initiative," said Mayor Rusty Paul. "Sandy Springs is a highly sought-after place to live, and programs like this one only enhance the beauty and aesthetics of our neighborhoods. I'm excited the City can contribute financially to these efforts."

The program will offer a City cost sharing applied to the installation expenses of approved decorative lighting fixtures as defined in the City's street light policy. The program requires neighborhoods to follow all other processes outlined in the street light policy to install lights, including the neighborhood petition process, lighting standards, and installation approvals from directly impacted homeowners.

There will be an enrollment period in conjunction with creating and funding the program, to allow interested neighborhoods the opportunity to prepare applications for funding consideration and subsequent lighting installation. In the event the cost of applications exceeds funds available in the program, applications will be prioritized on a lowest-cost-first basis.
