The City of Sandy Springs Opens Springway Trail

May 6, 2025

The City of Sandy Springs’ ceremonial scissors got another workout when the ribbon was cut for the first segment of the City’s Springway trail. On Friday, May 2, elected officials, City management and staff, along with community partners celebrated the first step in bringing the Trail Master Plan to fruition. The scenic 1.88-mile section of the Springway provides access to the Chattahoochee River, connecting Roswell Road to Morgan Falls Overlook Park at Cimarron Parkway.

“What a special day for our community as we officially open the first segment of the Springway Trail – a major step forward in connecting people, parks, and neighborhoods right here in Sandy Springs,” remarked Mayor Rusty Paul. “Let’s walk this path together—literally and figuratively—as we continue building a vibrant, healthy, and accessible city for everyone.”

In addition to remarks from Mayor Paul, Jack Misiura, Chairman of the Sandy Springs Conservancy, District 2 Councilwoman Dr. Melody Kelley, and Greta DeMayo, Executive Director of the PATH Foundation shared comments.

The Springway includes an 8”-12” wide, multi-use, paved trail and retaining walls, a picturesque boardwalk across Orkin Lake, drainage structures, pedestrian bridges, roadway realignments, landscaping, and trail signage.

The first segment completed from the 2019 Trail Master Plan was constructed by the City of Sandy Springs in partnership with The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, The Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, The PATH Foundation, and The Sandy Springs Conservancy.
