The City of Sandy Springs Invites the Community to Celebrate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a Family-Friendly Educational Event

January 5, 2026

Families across the community are invited to honor the life, teachings, and enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a special family-friendly celebration at Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center on January 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. Featuring an educational film screening and hands-on children’s activities, this free community event is designed to inspire learning, reflection, and connection for audiences of all ages.

At the heart of the program is a screening of Our Friend, Martin, an acclaimed animated educational film that follows two middle school friends as they travel through time and meet Dr. King at pivotal moments throughout his life. The film, nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, provides an engaging introduction to the Civil Rights Movement. Families should note that the film includes references to historical events that may prompt questions from younger viewers. Trailer available on YouTube.

Film Screenings:

  • 1:15 p.m.

  • 2:30 p.m.

In addition to the screenings, children can enjoy a variety of themed activity stations available throughout the event.

Guests can also enjoy kid-friendly food options from CityBar. & Café, including chicken tenders, mac & cheese, snacks, and beverages available for purchase.

Parking is available in the City Springs underground garage (parking rates may apply).
