The City of Sandy Springs Celebrates Community with Back to School Bash and Movies by Moonlight

The City of Sandy Springs is excited to announce two upcoming events that bring the community together for fun, entertainment, and safety awareness: 

Back to School Bash – A National Night Out Event 

Date: Tuesday, August 4, 2026 
Time: 6 – 9 p.m. 
Location: City Green at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way 

The City of Sandy Springs will kick off the school year and recognize the dedication of local public safety personnel by honoring members of the Sandy Springs Police Department and Fire Department during its annual Back to School Bash – A National Night Out event. Set for Tuesday, August 4, this celebration promotes strong community-police relationships while offering a fun and engaging evening for families. 

This event is supported by the Sandy Springs Police, Sandy Springs Fire, and Recreation and Parks Departments. 

Highlights include: 

  • Meet and greet with Sandy Springs police officers, firefighters, and K-9 units  
  • Up-close access to police cars, fire trucks, a mobile command center, and SWAT vehicles  
  • Helicopter landings on Mount Vernon Highway  
  • Giant inflatable obstacle course, free shaved ice, balloon art, and carnival games  
  • Live music and entertainment from a DJ  
  • Interactive dinosaur experience from Prehistoric Nation  

Participating agencies include the FBI, Secret Service, DEA, GBI, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia DNR and more. 

Movies by Moonlight 

Dates: Friday, August 7; Friday, September 4; Friday, October 9 
Time: Heritage Amphitheatre and outdoor concession stand open at 7 p.m.; Movie begins after sunset. 
Location: Heritage Amphitheatre Lawn, 6110 Blue Stone Road 

Guests are encouraged to arrive early, with movies starting shortly after sunset. The Heritage Amphitheatre features tiered seating, providing excellent views of the screen throughout the venue. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and settle in for an evening of family-friendly entertainment under the stars in a welcoming outdoor setting.  

2026 Movies by Moonlight Schedule: 

  • Friday, August 7 - The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003, PG) 
  • Friday, September 4 - Spy Kids (2001, PG) 
  • Friday, October 9 - New this year, the community can vote on the City's social media channels to help choose the special spooky-themed movie that will conclude the series. Additionally, attendees are invited to show off their Halloween spirit by participating in a family-friendly Costume Contest before the movie begins. 

The Movies by Moonlight series provides a fun and welcoming atmosphere for residents of all ages to enjoy classic family films. Admission is free and open to the public.
