Sandy Springs Fire Department Staff Holding ISO Award

City of Sandy Springs Fire Department Awarded Top ISO Rating

August 21, 2024

At the City Council meeting held Tuesday, August 20, the City of Sandy Springs Fire Department was presented with the Public Protection Classification (PPC) of 1 from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). Vice President of Community Hazard Mitigation with Verisk/ISO Michael Morash recognized Sandy Springs as one of only 25 fire departments in Georgia and 506 nationwide to receive the prestigious ISO Class 1 rating, placing the city in the top one percent of departments across the country.

“This award highlights the exceptional service provided daily by our Sandy Springs Fire Department and reflects their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving our community,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul. “This recognition not only honors the department but also has the potential to reduce insurance premiums for Sandy Springs residents and business owners.”

The ISO Class 1 rating is the highest possible and acknowledges Sandy Springs' outstanding fire protection capabilities. The ISO evaluates fire protection services based on factors such as fire department operations, water supply, emergency communications, and community risk reduction efforts, assigning a PPC grade from 1 to 10, with Class 1 representing the highest level of service.

The new rating took effect on June 1, 2024. Residents are encouraged to contact their insurance providers to explore potential savings resulting from this improved classification. Previously, the Sandy Springs Fire Department held an ISO rating of 3/3x in 2011 and improved to an ISO rating of 2 in 2016.

The Public Protection Classification (PPC) program continues to set high standards for fire protection across the nation, and Sandy Springs' recent achievement underscores its dedication to excellence in safeguarding the community.
