April 15, 2021
Post Date: April 15, 2021
The destination marketing organizations behind Visit Roswell, Awesome Alpharetta, and Visit Sandy Springs announced their partnership to launch the Topside Tap Trail. This brewery trail features seven breweries in metro Atlanta's "topside," located in the cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, and Sandy Springs, Georgia. The trail was created to earn recognition for North Fulton County's craft beer culture along the GA400 corridor and to attract visitors interested in craft beer to each city.
The Topside Tap Trail breweries include: From The Earth Brewing Company, Gate City Brewing, Variant Brewing Company, Currahee Brewing Company, Jekyll Brewing, Pontoon Brewing, and Porter Pizza & Brewery.
The craft beer industry is thriving in Georgia, and the Topside Tap Trail features seven of the best breweries and brewpubs in the state. Along the trail, beer lovers will find five taprooms and three full-service restaurants offering handcrafted beers brewed on site. When visitors walk into these locations, they will be among friends sharing a love of local beer, good food, and community.
Meet the Topside Tap Trail breweries
Roswell breweries
From The Earth Brewing Company
The first brewpub in Roswell features locally sourced cuisine, world-class beer, and craft cocktails in a fun, easy-going environment. The brewpub offers 10–12 house beers, 4–6 rotating local and regional drafts, and a non-alcoholic root beer. The kitchen features chef-driven seasonal fare at a reasonable price. From The Earth is known for naming each beer after a song. The brewpub also books live entertainment throughout the week.
Gate City Brewing
Gate City, Roswell's first brewing company, is located in Roswell's historic district. The name references Atlanta's historical moniker as the "Gate City of the New South," rooted in its reputation as a hub for culture, commerce, and transportation. Gate City strives to brew beers that embody that independent spirit. The taproom features highboys, a long bar, and soft seating, with garage doors that open to outdoor space with picnic tables and a separate private event space.
Variant Brewing Company
Variant Brewing Company crafts quality brews designed to be shared. Their collaborative approach and passion for the brewing process creates experiential blends for occasional beer drinkers and craft beer enthusiasts alike. Owner and brewmaster Matt Curling says the focus is on variety. Variant features a taproom with bar, highboys, and tables, plus a large brick outdoor patio.
Alpharetta breweries
Currahee Brewing Company
Located along Downtown Alpharetta's Main Street, Currahee Brewing serves German and Belgian-style beers including a crisp Belgian golden ale, a hoppy German lager, and a rich coffee stout. The two founders built the brewery with beer aficionados in mind. Currahee's featured brews include Frankenstark, Garand IPA, and Wayah Lager, with seasonal and limited releases also available.
Jekyll Brewing
Alpharetta's first brewery pays homage to Georgia's first brewery, which opened on Jekyll Island in 1738. Each brew on tap nods to the South with names like Cooter Brown, Big Creek, Southern Juice IPA, and Hop Dang Diggity. Visitors can enjoy a flight and tour the brewery. Jekyll Brewing has since expanded, bringing its beers and a new restaurant to Downtown Alpharetta. The second location includes a tasting room, restaurant, and a rooftop patio three stories above Academy and Market Streets.
Sandy Springs breweries
Pontoon Brewing
Pontoon Brewing Company was the first microbrewery to open in Sandy Springs. Founded by longtime friends with a passion for craft beer and a laid-back lifestyle, the taproom opened in 2017. Pontoon's beers are made with "a relaxing day on the water" in mind — fitting for a brewery just minutes from the Chattahoochee River. Pontoon rotates a list of seasonal and limited-edition beers throughout the year.
Porter Pizza & Brewery
Porter Pizza & Brewery grew out of owner Allen Porter's home brewing hobby. His mission was to serve craft brew lovers a variety of rotating beers while staying small. Porter Pizza & Brewery operates as a restaurant with an onsite microbrewery. Guests can enjoy a menu featuring brick oven pizza, pasta, salads, and sandwiches alongside a continually rotating beer list at this casual brewpub.
