Projects That Do Not Require a Permit

Projects that do not require permitting are typically cosmetic upgrades that do not involve licensed trades or alter the footprint of the property.

Examples include:

  • Painting
  • Flooring installations (carpet, tile, hardwood)
  • Trim and baseboards
  • Wall mounting for decorative items or televisions
  • Door and window replacements within the existing framework
  • Exterior siding replacement
  • Roof replacement involving shingles only
  • Gutter replacement

Building Permits

A Building Permit is required for projects involving:

  • Multiple licensed trades
  • Structural work

Some projects may also require special permits in addition to a Building Permit.

Construction Project Permits

Trade Permits

Projects involving only one licensed trade may qualify for a single trade permit. These permits are typically issued within one business day.

Specialty Permits

Specialty permits are issued by Planning & Zoning and Public Works and are applied for separately through Build Sandy Springs.
